A Neighborhood Icon, Inspired by Nature

221 Main Street

They say you shouldn't mess with the classics. But at 221 Main Street, an infusion of personality transforms a traditional 70s-era building into a distinct presence.

To attract and retain legacy tech companies in San Francisco’s Spear Street Corridor neighborhood, developer Beacon Capitol Partners sought to create a memorable anchor for the area. ESI created a large-scale digital display that extends from the exterior facade to the interior lobby, renewing the building with a modern design while complimenting its angular form.

Landscapes drawn from the surrounding region—from a digital oceanic tide to restorative, old-growth forests—wash across the 126 foot-long, 25-foot-wide media installation.

Meditative nature scenes brought to life through etched diffusion glass mounted above three different types of LED resolutions create a continuous image across the installation’s entire surface, which begins in the lobby and extends upward and outward to the outdoor entryway.

The addition of the LEDs has been really enjoyable and interesting. It sets a good presence for us, and for the people who come and visit us.
