A Lobby as Canvas, Passersby as Paintbrushes
Art serves many purposes, from provoking conversation to creating moments of delight.
However, it is typically static, generated by the hand of a single artist. What if instead, an artistic masterpiece could be co-created through simply walking by, transforming a passthrough entryway into a destination?

At 44 Montgomery Street, people become paintbrushes, trailing bold, shimmering strokes of whimsical color across a 327-foot digital canvas that welcomes and invites tenants to linger and connect.
Merging vivid hues, light and textures, five motion-activated sensors track visitors; as more people fill the lobby, the horizontal canvas captures this energy, becoming livelier and more colorful. The result is a “crowdsourced” expressive media installation befitting tenants in creative, tech and traditional industries alike.
The “canvas” that hosts the interactive digital installation is a work of art, too. Rather than a traditional, flat white background, vertical bands create a 3D backdrop, inspired by linear metal patterns that run across the entire length of the building’s exterior.
The addition of architectural accents, a new entrance design, lighting, and signage are designed to unify the building’s exterior and increase its street presence.
