The shops at 900 North Michigan—a luxury shopping destination at the northern end of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile—eschew scrolling, clicking and “adding to cart” in favor of a dynamic, 190-foot media installation that helps the mall stand out in an area where everyone is competing to be seen.  

The media design at 900 North Michigan Shops creates a unified, sophisticated experience that elevates both the property and its retailers. Retailer names and products are transformed into captivating kaleidoscope animations that draw attention and enhance brand presence, and trompe l’oeil effects make the ceiling appear to open to the sky, immersing visitors in ultra-high-definition scenes of rustling trees and colorful local birds. Hourly performative features create moments of wonder that increase dwell time and make the Shops a memorable destination.

In addition, a redesigned entrance at Michigan Avenue announces the redefined mall experience while inside, ESI created visual focus with a straightforward signage system that brings store names forward towards the atrium, making them visible from all angles.

The digital canopy allows us to introduce art into an atypical environment that will pleasantly surprise our guests. The installation will also serve as a medium through which we plan to showcase the great ideas of artists working in the digital design space both in Chicago and throughout the world.
